I have a love seeing how films are made, so last night I treated myself to a viewing of the 130 minutes of extra features bonus disk from The Hunger Games, Catching Fire DVD.
It was really interesting to see how the film was made (oooh I’d have never guessed it was done like that!) and had more CGI than I initially thought (which is a good thing I guess, speaks well of the quality of the CGI that goes unnoticed).
The part that really interested me though was the section on concept art. Being interested in all things creative, it was amazing to see initial ideas of what things were going to look like and how they developed into iconic items from the film, from characters to clothing, sets to signage, everything was covered. It’s interesting to look at the variations of styles from all of the artists and see how they interpret the book in their own way.
Take a look at the slides and even if you’re not a fan of the films/books, you have to appreciate the skill that’s gone into creating these images.
